General Contractor in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Fort Lauderdale is Broward's biggest city and its busiest building market, with canal-front homes, high-rise condos along the beach and the Intracoastal, and a downtown full of commercial space. Much of it sits close to salt water, which shapes everything from product choices to how fast concrete deteriorates.
What to know before you build or remodel in Fort Lauderdale
- Permits are filed through the city's LauderBuild online portal, which is also where Building Safety Inspection reports are submitted.
- Building Safety Inspection Program. Under Broward's Policy 05-05, buildings 25 years and older, other than small homes, townhouses and buildings under 3,500 square feet, need a structural and electrical safety inspection and then one every 10 years.
- Waterfront and flood zones. Canal and coastal lots often sit in flood zones, which affects new home elevations and large renovations under the 50 percent rule.
- High-Velocity Hurricane Zone product approvals for every window, door and roof.
- Commercial space. Tenant build-outs downtown and along the main corridors need drawings, permits and landlord coordination.
